BD Diesel
This performance transmission is built to handle up to 300% more power and torque than stock while dramatically increasing drivetrain durability. It features all-new bushings, a redesigned valve body, revised oil circuits, and a fully rollerized geartrain to reduce friction and improve longevity.
Stock thrust washers are replaced with roller Torrington bearings to protect governor solenoids, while a drilled intermediate shaft and modified manual valve ensure proper lubrication in all gear positions. 47RE units are upgraded with stronger 48RE components, including new input shafts and hub assemblies, eliminating shuttle shifting and maintaining firm shifts even at light throttle. Line pressure increases occur earlier, delivering up to 80% higher clutch apply pressure than stock.
Clutch capacity is increased with heavy-duty clutches offering up to 25% more friction material, machined pressure plates and pistons, a high-temperature Raybestos band, and billet band and accumulator components. Reliability is further enhanced with an upgraded governor pressure transducer and solenoid, a cooler line case saver, and a BD auxiliary full-flow filter kit.
Cooling and strength are improved with a BD rigid aluminum heavy-duty transmission pan, which adds 1 quart of fluid capacity, reduces case flex and internal leakage, includes heat-dissipating fins, and features a magnetic drain plug.
Clutch counts include Forward (5), Direct (5), Overdrive (6), and Overdrive Direct (10)—making this transmission a proven solution for high-power diesel applications.
